High 5 uses a single system of currency called High 5 Classic (H5C) dollars. You receive 1 million H5C when you sign up, which can be used to play more than 160 games.

You can also purchase more H5C, and the prices are helpfully listed in Canadian currency. However, there’s no clear information about payment options – on my iPad, it simply went through to Apple Pay with no other option for Interac or credit card available.

There’s also no information about how – or if – you can redeem coins for prizes in Canada. This makes us a bit leery to recommend High 5 Casino as a legitimate sweeps casino for Canadians, although it does offer redemptions in the US.

Sweepstakes casinos are provincially regulated in Canada, which is why their availability may be different in some parts of the country.

In most cases, sweepstakes casinos haven’t been defined by the provincial regulations so they’re free to operate in a “grey area”. Because they don’t require real-money spending, they aren’t considered gambling activity.

We’ve researched the legality of sweepstakes casinos in every Canadian province and territory, including who regulates them and their status in each location.

Alberta	Sweepstakes aren’t covered by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC), which regulates real-money casinos.  A bill is underway to establish the Alberta iGaming Corporation, which would include sweepstakes casinos.
British Columbia	The British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC)’s Gaming Control Act was last updated in August 2025. It states that casino gambling does not include “social occasion” casinos, which would include sweepstakes casinos.
Manitoba	None of the most recent acts passed by the Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation explicitly mention sweepstakes casinos.
New Brunswick	The Gaming Control Act passed by the New Brunswick Lotteries and Gaming Corporation (NBLGC) doesn’t mention sweepstakes or social casinos. The Gaming Control Act hasn’t been amended since 2021.
Newfoundland	Newfoundland is part of the Atlantic Lottery Corporation (ALC) to regulate real-money online casinos, but the province has no legislation specific to sweepstakes casinos.
Nova Scotia	Nova Scotia’s Gaming Control Act states that casinos should operate in a “socially responsible manner”, but this doesn’t specifically reference social casinos.
Ontario	iGaming Ontario was established as an agency of the Government of Ontario in 2021. Their Gaming Control Act states their object is to “promote responsible gaming” online but doesn’t specifically reference sweepstakes casino.
Prince Edward Island	PEI’s Lotteries Commission Act doesn’t make any mention of online or sweepstakes casinos.  The province is also a member of the Atlantic Lottery Corporation which regulates real-money online casinos.
Quebec	Loto-Quebec requires all online casinos to register with the province to operate. This includes sweepstakes casinos, which is why they don’t tend to be available in the province.
Saskatchewan	Saskatchewan’s Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act doesn’t mention online gaming, which would include sweepstakes casinos. PlayNow.com is the only site where SK residents can play online casino games.

In all three territories, there are no government-regulated online casinos, leaving residents with offshore casinos and sweepstakes casinos as the best options.
