When the first of four Huff N’ Puff games dropped five years ago, it was just like any other three-reel progressive jackpot in the casino with a fairytale twist. It quickly gained traction among high rollers and casual players alike as a welcome addition to the Lock it Link series.
In this editorial, we’ll be taking a closer look at the rise of Huff N’ Puff and introducing the newest version of the game: Huff N’ Extra Puff.
Vegas Matt, Ruby Slots, Vegas Low Roller, and Albert’s Slot Channel are just a handful of the influencers who’ve taken a stab at the game’s Super Jackpot since it launched in June 2024.
As we follow the Big Bad Wolf through the woods, let’s start by discussing how he first blew the proverbial house down in 2019.
Huff N’ Puff (2019)
Huff N’ Puff is based around the story of the Three Little Pigs, but there’s a caveat: whenever the wolf decides to blow the piggies’ houses to smithereens, players have the chance to win hundreds of thousands of dollars. Lady Luck HQ earned $100,000 playing the original game.
It’s set on a 3 x 5 grid with piggies, toolboxes, cones, letters, and golden helmets as symbols. Getting six golden helmets on a single spin unlocks six free games. If you land three helmets with any spin during the bonus round, you’ll retrigger the feature to get three additional spins.
At the end of the bonus round, you’ll notice mansions and houses on the screen. The wolf is all ready to start huffing and puffing, but you’ll want to be on the lookout for mansions – these have a coin hidden inside. A coin is guaranteed to be a Mini, Minor, Major, or Grand Jackpot prize.
Huff N’ More Puff (2022)
Once the public had gotten a taste for Huff N’ Puff, it was time for another rustic masterpiece to hit the shelves. Huff N’ More Puff launched nationwide in 2022. It maintains the best aspects of the original game while going even higher on the volatility scale for bigger progressive jackpots.
Huff N’ More Puff also builds on its predecessor with a renewed focus on bonus features. When you get six golden helmets in the original game, you get six free games followed by a grid full of houses and mansions. The sequel has helmets, but there’s a new symbol in town: the buzzsaw.
If you get three or more buzzsaws on a single spin, you unlock the Wheel feature. Spinning the wheel might earn you the Mini, Minor, Major, or Grand Jackpot. More likely, you’ll land on any of three bonuses – the Mansion Bonus, the Buzzsaw Bonus, and the Mega Hat Bonus.
Any buzzsaws on the grid become mansions if you get the Mansion Bonus. Hats that appear on the grid also turn into mansions, and they can pay up to 10x your stake if you get a full screen of them. The Buzzsaw Bonus and Mega Hat Bonus also trigger mansions for the wolf to destroy.
Lady Luck HQ seems to have a special talent for the Huff N’ Puff series, and she claims to have won the largest jackpot ever recorded on the game in 2022. She pocketed a $23,000+ handpay.
Huff N’ Even More Puff (March 2024)
When it first went live in March 2024, Huff N’ Even More Puff did the impossible by adding to an already-perfect slot franchise. This time around, Light & Wonder focused more on the Wheel by adding another layer of potential bonuses. If you get the Upgrade symbol on the first wheel spin, you’ll have a chance to win their Grand and Super progressives on the second half of the wheel.
This iteration of Huff N’ Puff has a Super Jackpot cap of 1.5 million credits and a maximum bet denomination of $2 per credit. Theoretically, this would make the maximum possible jackpot win $3 million. Huff N’ Even More Puff adds a Super jackpot that’s even larger than the grand prize.
Huff N’ More Puff Power 4 (May 2024)
Huff N’ More Puff Power 4 takes the second iteration in this series and quadruples the fun with four 3 x 5 grids. Admittedly, you won’t get far if you’re pinching pennies. This machine is built for record-breaking jackpots. The Big Jackpot did $200 spins in May, but he didn’t have much luck.
Instead of needing to unlock just six helmets to land the bonus feature, you have to collect 24 of them to have the wolf blow down mansions on all four grids. It’s a bit overwhelming if you’re not a seasoned casino player, but it’s proved to be quite a thrill for Vegas’ most prolific high rollers.
Huff N’ Extra Puff (June 2024)
That brings us to the latest and greatest Huff N’ Extra Puff game, which was released in casinos just last month. Vegas Matt took it for a spin yesterday, and the first thing his companion said rang true for our team here at SlotsFan: “This is different.”
Then again, different might be good when you have a $125k Grand Jackpot on the line. He was referencing the game’s three-reel layout, making the bottom half of the screen feel more like an old-school version of Huff N’ Puff than anything else.
Landing three hats or three buzzsaws unlocks the Wheel feature. The “Big Bad Wolf” feature is the newest addition to the Wheel, but there’s no second level to get excited for. Vegas Matt won $1,580 on the game as the wolf blew on the screen to upgrade his piggies’ houses to mansions.
